Walk Shoot Chat: Frequently Asked Questions

Starting something new can feel a little daunting — especially if you’re coming along on your own or aren’t sure what to expect.

So here’s everything you need to know before joining a Walk Shoot Chat experience.

What is Walk Shoot Chat?

Walk Shoot Chat is a relaxed, guided experience combining three things:

  • Exploring Cornwall on foot.

  • Learning photography in a practical, real-world way.

  • Meeting like-minded people.

Each walk is built around a specific location and its history, with plenty of opportunities to take photos, ask questions, and have a chat along the way.

Do I need a professional camera?

Not at all.

You’re very welcome to bring:

  • A DSLR or mirrorless camera

  • A compact camera

  • Film camera

The focus is on helping you get better photos — not just having expensive gear.

I’m a complete beginner — is this for me?

Yes — 100%.

Walk Shoot Chat is designed to be beginner-friendly. There’s no technical jargon overload, no pressure, and no expectations.

If you already have experience, you’ll still pick up tips and benefit from the creative environment — but beginners are especially welcome.

What kind of photography will we be doing?

It depends on the location, but typically includes:

  • Coastal landscapes

  • Harbours and boats

  • Historic buildings

  • Street-style candid moments

  • Details and textures

You’ll learn how to:

  • Use light more effectively

  • Improve composition

  • Spot interesting shots

  • Tell a story through your images

How much walking is involved?

These are gentle, social walks — not hikes.

  • Plenty of stops for photos and discussion

  • Usually 2 hours - 3 hours

  • A relaxed pace suitable for most people

If a route has any tricky terrain, it will always be mentioned in advance. There will however, be some uneven ground on most routes as we use the Cornish coast path a lot.

Do I need to be sociable?

Not at all — but most people naturally end up chatting.

Many people come on their own, and Walk Shoot Chat is designed to make it easy to connect without any pressure.

You can:

  • Join conversations

  • Take time to focus on your photography

  • Or just enjoy the atmosphere

What will I learn about the history?

Each walk includes stories and context about the location, such as:

  • Local heritage and industries

  • Hidden details you might otherwise miss

  • Stories behind buildings and landmarks

  • How the area has changed over time

It’s not a formal lecture — more like storytelling as we explore.

What should I bring?

We recommend:

  • Your camera

  • Comfortable walking shoes

  • Weather-appropriate clothing

  • A drink (and maybe a snack)

Optional:

  • A small notebook if you like jotting down tips

What happens if the weather is bad?

This is Cornwall — so a bit of unpredictability is part of the experience.

  • Light rain: walks usually go ahead

  • Severe weather: you’ll be offered a reschedule or refund

You’ll always be kept informed ahead of time.

Is there a group size limit?

Yes — groups are kept to a maximum of 10 people.

This means:

  • More personal guidance

  • Easier conversation

  • A better overall experience

Can I come on my own?

Absolutely — and most people do.

Walk Shoot Chat is a great way to:

  • Meet new people

  • Build confidence

  • Enjoy a shared creative experience

You won’t feel out of place.

Will there be time to socialise?

Yes — that’s a big part of it.

Many walks include an optional post-walk coffee stop, where you can:

  • Chat more

  • Share photos

  • Get to know people

How do I book?

Booking is simple — just head to the Photo Walks page on the website and choose a date and location that works for you.

Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.

Still have a question?

Feel free to get in touch — I’m always happy to help.

And if you’re on the fence…

Just come along.

It’s relaxed, welcoming, and you might be surprised how much you get out of it.

Walk. Shoot. Chat.
